Texts of Participatory Culture (in progress)

Edited by Andrzej Dąbrówka, Maciej Maryl and Aleksandra Wójtowicz, this book compiles papers from the conference of the same title, organised by Institute for Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Committee on Literary Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw on 7-8 November 2013. “Participatory culture,” as opposed to consumer culture, is mostly analysed from a social perspective, so that researchers focus on the communication behaviour of the participants (prosumers, crowdsourcing). The volume contains analyses of texts that originate from a variety of semiotic and media systems. These analyses treat such issues as websites, blogs, portals, social networking, forums, memes, games, applications, e-literature and many more. The articles in this volume consider the very concept of the “cultural text” in the context of the new communication situation, borrowing tools from literary, cultural, as well as media studies.
